This inagural chapter of ExtraOrdinary is entitled Catalyst, because it’s primarily meant to serve as a “zero issue.” It’s technically the origin story of Challenger – the Superman of the universe. I wanted the cover to incorporate all the elements of the set-up: space, Earth, humanity’s militaristic approach to certain threats, and the alien who is for all intents and purposes anatomically human.

I also wanted to show Challenger in all his glory. I really love this character as he’s essentially my version of Superman. The symbol on his chest is the symbol for Earth. There have been comments that because it “looks like a cross” it looks religiously motivated. I can assure you that is not the case, however, that very assertion may indeed come into play down the road.
